Dr. Randa Zayed is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and a Sleep Medicine Physician in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Utah. Dr. Zayed is an expert in treating all sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, circadian rhythm disorders, hypersomnolence disorders, restless leg syndrome, and others.

Her interest in sleep medicine began with a deep appreciation for the profound impact that sleep has on overall health and well-being. As a physician in an academic institution, she was drawn to the field by the opportunity to improve patients’ sleep quality as a pathway to enhancing their broader health outcomes. Over time, she has seen firsthand how optimizing sleep can significantly improve chronic conditions such as hypertension, heart failure, obesity and migraine—conditions that are not only common but often difficult to manage without addressing underlying sleep disorders.

In her clinical and academic work, she focuses on a multidisciplinary approach to sleep medicine, integrating the latest evidence-based practices with a commitment to personalized, patient-centered care. She is particularly passionate about educating patients and trainees alike on the critical role of sleep in preventive health and chronic disease management. Through research, teaching, and clinical care, she strives to advance the understanding and treatment of sleep disorders as a vital component of holistic health.

Dr. Zayed completed her residency in both Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey and Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Ohio, followed by a sleep medicine fellowship at the University of South Florida and Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
