I was very impressed with Dr. Sontheimer. I've been thinking about making an appointment at the University of Utah for sometime, he made me wish I'd done it a lot sooner. Dealing with a very rare condition has been challenging to say the least. He decided that I was gonna go find somebody that knew what they were doing because I hadn't had much luck in my town where I live. How I wish I had done this sooner. He explained what was going on with my skin what he could do about it and was it OK with me if he proceeded and I said yes he and his staff were very courteous and very helpful. I use a walker and I felt his assistant was extra helpful making sure the doors were open for me. There was room for my walker in the room and make sure I was comfortable. This was a great experience for me.

The scheduling process was incredibly efficient'I received a response and booked an appointment within an hour, which was amazing. The appointment itself was right on time, and there were no scheduling conflicts. The medical assistant was professional and attentive, validating my concerns and answering all of my questions. The dermatologist thoroughly addressed all of my concerns, provided a clear treatment plan, and I never felt rushed. I also appreciated receiving a referral for further care.
Dr. Sontheimer cut out a mole that had been bothering me for years and other doctors had never solved the problem. He was the first doctor to look at it with a magnifying glass. He found blood vessels which shouldn't grow in a mole. The itchy-burning has not happened again since the mole was cut out. I really appreciate having it gone.

Physician spent 4 whole minutes with me. He was mostly concerned about giving me prescriptions. I had asked for a full body scan during scheduling and with MA, but physician said he didn't have time ("running behind schedule") and that I'd have to reschedule to get a scan. Seriously!!? I came to appointment to see him for 4 minutes and not get what I needed? Because he was running behind? Very disappointed, won't be back and will tell others to avoid this doctor. Even the MA apologized to me for doc's behavior.

Dr Sontheimer was amazing, he even asked about my allergies and asthma as well as various other issues I've had. I could tell that he was taking my whole body health into consideration.
I expressed a concern about a skin condition in my ear. Dr. Sontheimer offered a prescription to help this. However that offer got lost in the rest of the visit and the prescription was not sent to my pharmacy. I had to call back the next day and request it again. It was filled and taken care of very well.
Explained, in lay terms, my conditions and plan to address them. Explained how/when to apply medications. Very much appreciated thoroughness and dumbing down the medical terminology.

He recently removed a melanoma from my husband's back and In addition to referring him to a dermatologist oncologist for follow up, he called him twice. After a few minutes of whole body exam, he told me he couldn't remove a dark spot because it's purely cosmetic. I was then told that a small cyst on my upper back could be excised but not by him nor at this appt. Finally, he was trying to wrap up the encounter when I asked him about treating toe nail fungus. He told me he couldn't address that issue because it would take too long and he is only allowed to spend 8 minutes with each patient. He then told me to make another appt if I wanted learn ways to treat the fungus. He said he had to go because another patient was waiting, turned around and walked out the door.

In person, I felt better about the situation. After the biopsy, I felt the after care was lacking. I understand that test results may be inconclusive. But a problem that has migrated from one toe to another, turned toes different purple colors, produced unusual red spots, and at times thinned the skin to the point of splitting, all over the course of a one year plus period, is most definitely not an ingrown toenail. I agree that there is probably a similar inflammation that may show in lab results, I just feel that after the financial earning was complete, no care was given to determining what the actual issue is or to helping resolve my issue.

I have multiple skin cancer spots. Initial visit was for biopsy on 2, Dr said we would assume others were the same. I thought all spots were being treated but Dr stated only the 2 from biopsy were and that he would need to biopsy others prior to treatment. I live 3 hours away in Wyoming and can't pop down there every week so I was extremely disappointed to hear all spots were not being treated at this visit.
I have never experienced such good care from a dermatologist. I totally trust this good man. He was caring, competent with my issues and listened carefully to my concerns. He was generous and caring about the cost of the appointment. I would absolutely recommend him to everyone.

I had more questions and deep concerns bc this is a rare condition. He told me he had only 10 minutes and he already spent more time with me than he should have. so i was cut off! I was shocked as was my husband. I drove from Montana to find help for something Ive had for over 3 years! He was rude and arrogant! As he left, he turned and said good luck!! I was a number on his list that day. Not a person with a debilitating condition that has changed my life. I didnt expect a cure, a one time solution. He was informative of little he knew about the condition which I respect.
