Huntsman Mental Health Institute (HMHI) is pleased to welcome Andrew A. Nierenberg, MD, as the Department of Psychiatry Grand Rounds speaker on Wedensday, January 19 at 12:00 PM. His presentation is titled "Radically Rethinking Research to Improve Outcomes: A Bipolar Learning Healthcare Network Initiative."
Dr. Andrew Nierenberg is a Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and holds the Thomas P. Hackett, MD, Endowed Chair in Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). He has published over 550 papers and has been listed in The Best Doctors in America for the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders in every edition since 1994. In 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017, he was listed among the World's Most Influential Scientific Minds by Clarivate in recognition of ranking among the top 1% of researchers for most cited papers in psychiatry worldwide. He lectures extensively, both nationally and internationally, teaches, supervises, maintains an active clinical practice, consults to industry, and conducts clinical trials funded by federal, foundation, industry, and philanthropic sources.
His primary interest is innovative treatments for bipolar disorder. In 2018, he established the Dauten Family Center for Bipolar Treatment Innovation at MGH, where he now serves as Director. The Dauten Family Center is focused on finding innovative treatments to acheive better outcomes for people with bipolar disorder. Their experts specializes in pharmacological, neuromodulation, and psychosocial treatment of bipolar disorders.

The Department of Psychiatry Grand Rounds series presents local and nationally-renowned clinicians, researchers, and educators. Grand Rounds typically occur the first and third Wednesday of each month. Lectures may be presented in-person, virtually, or both - presentation availability is noted in the schedule online. Presentations recordings may be made available at the discretion of the presenters.
Grand Rounds presentations are for educational purposes and intended for behavioral/mental health professionals and clinical providers. Continuing education (CE) credit is available. The University of Utah School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
