Outpatient Pharmacy
Pharmacists at Huntsman Cancer Institute are experts at managing medications for people with cancer. We have most cancer medications in stock, including many not available at other pharmacies. Our pharmacists work with your care team to provide your medications safely. We screen for drug allergies and drug interactions. We help you understand how to take your medications and what side effects you may experience.
We also offer over-the counter medicines and supplies to the general public, often at a lower price than other retail pharmacies. Staff and loved ones of families may also fill prescriptions here.

Our Services
Prescription Fills and Refills
We can fill prescriptions while you are at an appointment and have them ready when you’re done or within 15 minutes after. Oral chemotherapy prescriptions may take up to 30 minutes after your appointment.
If you are here for an infusion appointment, we can fill your take-home prescription medications and bring them to you.
If we receive a prescription for oral chemotherapy, we can generally ship it to you the same day. This allows you to start the medication as soon as possible so you do not miss any doses. Our pharmacy is licensed to ship oral chemotherapy medications in Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana.
If you are staying in the hospital, we fill any take-home prescriptions and bring them to your bedside before you are discharged.

Insurance and Financial Help
We accept most insurances. We accept GoodRX if you do not have insurance or if your insurance does not cover a medication (some exceptions apply).
We work closely with medication access coordinator techs to get prior authorizations from your insurance.
We can help you enroll in the Medication Support Services Program. This program provides medications to patients who are uninsured or need financial assistance.
Vaccines
We provide some vaccines and can bill insurances for most vaccines, including the following:
- Medicare for influenza, pneumococcal, and herpes zoster vaccines
- Commercial prescription insurances for most other vaccines
The Huntsman Cancer Institute Pharmacy does not offer the COVID-19 vaccine. You can get the COVID-19 vaccine at other University of Utah Health facilities. Learn about the COVID-19 vaccine and how to schedule an appointment.
