"It's gratifying to be ranked among the nation's best."
"A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of," said Avery Comarow, U.S. News Health Rankings Editor. "All of these hospitals are the kinds of medical centers that should be on your list when you need the best care."
Approximately 5,000 hospitals in 94 U.S. metro areas were eligible for this year's rankings. To meet the criteria hospitals must offer each of 16 medical specialties, and then are ranked according to death rates, patient safety rates, procedure volume, and other objective data. This year, 720 U.S. hospitals were ranked either in the top 50 or high-performing categories in at least one specialty area.
