Doctor Sandra Buys and APRN Chanteel Ballard work together so smoothly that you can tell they are friends and trusted colleagues. They have always spoken with me about my results from tests and give me options with how to treat them. I usually have no idea what option would be best for me at the time so I rely heavily on their expertise and opinions.

Dr. Buys was truly exceptional in a very scary time for me emotionally and physically. this was actually a second opinion, I had already visited another highly regarded oncologist and had a completely different experience with Dr. Buys and her team. They were warm, caring, not judgmental, and most of all amazingly informative. Dr. Buys actually took the time to take detailed notes for me (4 pages!) and let me record the entire appointment. I left feeling more in control and had a better outlook on my future and the plan going forward than I have had in two months. In these times of COVID-19 madness, where we're all in masks, I can't take my husband to any appointments with me, when meeting people who are in charge of the care of my life, literally, we can't even shake hands, it has been a terribly devastating time to receive a cancer diagnosis (not that anytime is good), but through all of this, I left feeling like I had been given not only more aware of my current medical state but I had also been given a big "air hug" at the same time. I'd fully recommend Dr. Buys and her team to my closest friends and family.

Dr. Buys is not only a pre-eminent cancer doctor, but she shows a great deal of empathy and interest when explaining the treatment protocol she has recommended. I just switched to Huntsman a little over a year ago as my previous oncologist (20 years) retired from his practice in Houston. I felt I got a much more thorough check-up with him as he also ran cancer specific blood tests, and none are ordered at Huntsman. I realize this may be giving me just a false sense of security, but it made me feel as if they were looking harder for anything amiss. At this visit, I simply had a breast exam and mammogram and, frankly, felt that could have been done just as easily by my local family physician.

I have been seeing Dr. Buys since breast cancer diagnosis in 2005. She is a superb physician; she has experience and expertise to treat the cancer, and the heart and compassion to care for the patient, (me). Huntsman is indeed fortunate to have this physician on its staff.

I enjoy my visits with my doctor, and I realize there are many more patience in the office besides me. I work extra hard to cover my questions as quickly as possible, and to leave as soon as possible with out feeling like I'm being rushed through, or hurt because I could talk all day with her. I was glad to be able to return to work that afternoon, instead of taking half a day of PTO.

As you all know, Dr. Buys is amazing! Her "Breast Cancer 101" handout and her clarity in explaining each step to me was extremely helpful. I studied much of it on my own when I received my initial diagnosis; but her tutorial helped all the facts fall into place. My husband and I appreciated all the time she took with us.....explaining, examining, discussing my genetic family tree, and helping us understand future decisions and procedures. As a patient, I appreciated her sitting at my level on the stool, sitting knee-to-knee, eye-to-eye. Three cheers for a gracious, brilliant, approachable doctor!

There isn't a better physician IN THE WORLD than Dr. Buys. Besides being a genius, she is hilarious, compassionate and always knows the "right" things to say and do. I am the luckiest person alive, because she has been my oncologist for 22 years and has saved my life innumerable times. I was able to see my children graduate from college and earn master's degrees. I was able to attend the birth of my first (second, third, fourth and soon, fifth) grandchild. I was able to help my husband die peacefully from Lou Gehrig's Disease, and guess who was there to help me and my five children, Dr. Buys. She is the kind of person who comes along, if you're super lucky, once in a lifetime. My greatest honor and privilege is being her patient. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I would have died 22 years ago had it not been for Dr. Buys. There aren't adequate words to express my gratitude. There's really no way to describe your hero. She is loved by everyone. She has made such a difference in the world.

Dr. Buys is awesome. I have recommended her to friends. She is never too busy to "read between the lines" and find out how I am doing as a person with my family concerns as well as my health issues. She is not afraid to give a much needed hug and show concern. She is not the norm for a Dr. now days.

Dr. Buys and her fellow receive an A+ from me. I left their clinic feeling totally satisfied with the explanations that were provided and with our joint decision regarding further care. Huntsman is lucky to have such excellent and professional staff. My overall experience through the entire process has been more than favorable. I will have a long life, but there are many who are much worse off than I, and I am sure they all receive the same excellent care.

I have been a patient of Dr. Buys for nearly 7 years (I am age 67) and I have never known or been treated by a doctor as competent and compassionate as Dr. Buys. She listens to every complaint or question and takes the time to respond and is so very kind. No matter what the problem might be at the time, you can't help walking out of the examination room without a smile on your face. She is the best of the best!

"5" is not a big enough number to award Dr Buys. She goes far beyond the care and attention most doctors provide. She cares about the individual and goes well beyond the norm to listen, and to educate her patient. She also called me at 9 at night on a Friday to discuss a concern I had, and never made me feel out of place for invading her personal time with my issues. She is such a dedicated doctor and I am so lucky to have found her.

I'd heard amazing things about her prior to actually meeting with her, and now I understand why she has the amazing reputation that she does. She and her 2 nurses who saw me were so, so kind and so sweet and just really made me feel like they wanted to help take care of my health. Each of them even gave me a hug at the end of my visit. Dr. Buys took the time to write down notes for me as she explained my cancer, my options, and treatment. I have referred to them many times since the visit to help clarify any questions I have had. I was very impressed with the amount of time she spent with me and the direct phone calls she made to my mastectomy surgeons and radiologist. I was grateful to know that there were no missing links or disconnects with my cancer diagnosis and treatment, we were all on the same page. I really like Dr. Buys but I did get the feeling she thought I was "pressing on the lump and making it inflamed" when in fact I had not. I only felt it 3 times in 2 weeks as I was in "denial mode." I only felt it enough to verify it was there. I think having a diagnosis of anxiety causes providers to treat me as if I am an overly anxious person when in fact it is well controlled.

Dr. Buys' willingness to work with me on my wellness plan and concern over medication side effects has made all the difference in my health. I've been scared about taking Tamoxifen and, while it's still something I know is available, it has been huge incentive to address my overall health.
