  • Mary Steinmann, MD, Associate Professor (Clinical), is triple board certified in Pediatrics, Adult Psychiatry, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She practices clinically as an inpatient child and adolescent psychiatrist at the University's Huntsman Mental Health Institute. Dr. Steinmann has a special interest in children and families struggling with chronic comorbid medical and mental illness, and the impact of chronic illness on sibling relationships and family dynamics. She also has an interest in facilitating safe, trauma-informed, and evidence-based care for youth in state custody through the Utah Psychotropic Oversight Program (UPOP).

    Dr. Steinmann is passionate about medical education and has served multiple roles in both undergraduate and graduate medical education, including preclinical course director for Brain and Behavior and Foundations of Medicine in the Legacy curriculum and core educator for Human Behavior and Psychiatry. She has developed psychiatry curricula for various learners including medical students and physician assistant students, residents, and fellows. She is currently an Associate Program Director for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program. Dr. Steinmann is the recipient of several local and national teaching awards, including the University of Utah Early Career Educator Award, Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the Arnold Gold Foundation, and the APA Nancy C. Roeske Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Medical Student Education.
