While his clinical practice spans all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, he has a special interest in Arrhythmia Surgery and Adult congenital heart disease. Dr. Sharma received his medical degree and cardiothoracic training in India. He then completed general surgery training at Wellspan York Hospital, York, PA and cardiothoracic surgery training at University of Utah. He has also received advanced cardiothoracic fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Dr. Sharma joined the faculty at the University of Utah in Oct 2017.

Dr. Sharma has a strong interest in research related to atrial fibrillation. He is participating in research projects along with the bioengineering department to study atrial conduction characteristics to predict post-operative atrial fibrillation. In addition, Dr. Sharma is involved in value based and patient outcome research. He is the principle investigator for the Edwards Lifesciences sponsored trial on Patient reported outcomes with valvular heart disease. He has published extensively in many areas of adult congenital heart diseases.
