  • Mary Steinmann, MD, Associate Professor (Clinical), is triple board certified in Pediatrics, Adult Psychiatry, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She practices clinically as a child and adolescent psychiatrist at the University's Huntsman Mental Health Institute in the day treatment and inpatient settings. Dr. Steinmann has special interest in the interplay of chronic comorbid medical and mental illness and working with youth and families involved in state child welfare services. She is the medical director for the Utah Psychotropic Oversight Program (UPOP), which strives to ensure safe, evidence-based, and trauma-informed prescribing practices for youth in DCFS and JJYS custody.

    Dr. Steinmann is Program Director for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program. She has built her career around medical education and has developed psychiatry curricula and educational activities for learners in all levels of training, including medical students and physician assistant students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Steinmann is the recipient of several local and national teaching awards, including the University of Utah Early Career Educator Award, Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the Arnold Gold Foundation, and the APA Nancy C. Roeske Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Medical Student Education.
