  • Matthew Goodwin, MD, MS, FACS is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Utah.

    Dr. Goodwin received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and Master’s degree from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. He earned his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean. He completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of Toledo, Toledo, OH. During his training, he completed a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. He completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency at the Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.

    Dr. Goodwin’s clinical interests include: Adult cardiac surgery including multiple arterial coronary revascularization, valve repair and replacement, aortic procedures, arrhythmia surgery, acute and chronic/durable mechanical circulatory support, Heart and Lung Transplantation, Cardiovascular Critical Care, and minimally invasive, robotic heart surgery.

    Dr. Goodwin’s research interests include: Vascular tone and endothelial remodeling in heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, valvular heart disease in advanced heart failure, and mechanical circulatory support in decompensated heart failure and cardiogenic shock.

    I have nothing to say but good things about Dr goodwin. He listened to me, answered my questions, and was willing to let me question if I was doing the right thing without being offended. The whole experience of having open heart surgery at the University of Utah was positive.

    Dr Matthew Goodwin is a physician who not only took the necessary steps & protocols to insure that he would have complete data when he met with me but he listened very carefully & answered all of my questions so that I understood all that was necessary for me to be comfortable with the tests and data. I highly recommend Dr Matthew Goodwin to anyone who has aortic aneurysms as you will be in the highest of professional care.
