Huntsman Cancer Institute is a leader in mesothelioma research, using genetic and molecular studies to improve diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship for this rare disease. Researchers explore targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and novel surgical techniques such as HIPEC, while actively enrolling patients in clinical trials to test innovative approaches. 

With the largest Phase 1 clinical trials program in the Mountain West, we offer access to promising new therapies not available elsewhere, including targeted treatments and CAR T-cell therapy.

Mesothelioma Basics

    Mesothelioma is a rare cancer arising from the lining of the chest (pleura) or abdomen (peritoneum). 

    These are warning signs of mesothelioma:

    • Shortness of breath
    • Chest pain
    • Abdominal swelling
    • Weight loss
    • Persistent cough

    Many of these symptoms can be caused by other conditions. If you experience any concerning signs, schedule a screening today.

    • Staging (Stage 1–4 based on spread)
