Welcome to Wellness

The Linda B. and Robert B. Wiggins Wellness & Integrative Health Center at Huntsman Cancer Institute offers classes and services to foster lifelong well-being for people affected by cancer. 

Wellness & Integrative Health Center services are open to current and former Huntsman Cancer Institute patients by appointment. Group fitness classes do not require an appointment. Many services and classes are also open to loved ones and staff.

Integrative health and medicine brings conventional and complementary medical approaches together to treat symptoms of cancer patients and survivors.

We provide supportive treatments and services to patients and family including acupuncture, massage, group exercise, and more. Contact us at 801-587-4585 to learn more.  

Our licensed and certified professional staff includes medical doctors, dietitians, acupuncturists, massage therapists, cancer exercise physiologists, osteopathic medicine specialists, creative arts therapists, and more. Credentials and biography details for our professional staff are available upon request. 

Mind, Body & Nutrition


Adapted from traditional Chinese medicine, fine needles are placed at specific points to treat symptoms such as pain and nausea. Available at the HCI Wellness Center and HCI South Jordan Clinic.

Massage Therapy

Techniques that apply fixed or movable pressure, holding, and movement of the body for healing and relaxation. Available at the HCI Wellness Center and HCI South Jordan Clinic.

Osteopathic Manipulation

A gentle hands-on technique performed by a physician to help muscles, joints, and other body parts and improve motion, reduce pain, and improve health.

Look Good...Feel Better

Women with cancer learn beauty tips for side effects such as hair loss. They also get a free makeup kit. Sponsored by the American Cancer Society. First Thursday monthly, 5–7pm. Call 1-800-227-2345 to register.

Cooking Classes

Learn to prepare nutritious foods to improve health and well-being, and sample delicious recipes in the Good Life Kitchen Cooking Class Series.

Nutrition Counseling with Dietitians

Meet one-on-one with a registered dietitian to talk about nutrition before, during, or after cancer treatment to help keep strength and ease side effects.

NEW You Program

The NEW You program focuses on Nutrition, Exercise, and Wellness. Using the latest research, learn to eat better, be more active, and lose weight. Join us to change your lifestyle behaviors, see real results, and become a NEW YOU!

Creative Arts


A means of self-expression and communication through drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and more. All materials are provided. Tuesdays from 9 a.m.—5 p.m. in the HCI 6th Floor Multipurpose Room.

Music Therapy

Uses live music to help patients and caregivers express themselves and reach treatment goals. This evidence-based therapy may include interactive music to help patients and caregivers manage their symptoms. Available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday by appointment for inpatients, outpatients, and caregivers.   


Creative and expressive activities that include writing stories, poems, reflective essays, journaling, personal letters, and more. Wednesdays from 11 a.m.—1 p.m. in the HCI 6th Floor Bistro Private Dining Room. Also available by appointment for patients in the HCI Infusion Center and inpatients.

Group Classes & Outdoor Activities

Core and Stretch. Learn to strengthen your core with proper form and technique to improve posture and prevent back pain. Target the abdominals, back, and hips with a safe and challenging workout.

Outdoor Fitness. Join us for seasonal activities that include group hiking, road biking, rowing, snowshoeing, and more. Dates and locations vary.

Pilates Mat. Similar to yoga, Pilates mat focuses on basic exercises to improve core stability, strength, balance, flexibility, and posture. Pilates mat helps you be aware of breath, practice spinal alignment, and use core muscles.

Resistance Training. Target all of the major muscle groups using dumbbells, mats, resistance bands, and balls. Learn exercises that help strengthen bones and muscles. Regular resistance training increases metabolism to help maintain a healthy weight.

Step into Life. This is a therapeutic dance and movement experience for the mind, body, and spirit led by instructors from the University of Utah Tanner Dance Program.

T’ai Chi/Qigong. This slow, flowing energy movement improves strength, mindfulness, relaxation, immune system, blood circulation, balance, and neuropathy while exploring mindful breathing.

Yoga. This is a non-aerobic exercise of precise posture, breathing exercises, and meditation to improve mood and sense of well-being to increase flexibility, balance, range of motion, and muscle tone.

Yoga/Qigong. This non-aerobic exercise focuses on posture, breathing, and meditation combined with slow, flowing energy movement to improve strength, mindfulness, and relaxation.

Yogalates. This is a blend of yoga and Pilates that combines mind/body practices as well as stretching, strength training, conditioning, and dynamic movement.

Zumba®. This is a fusion of Latin and international music and dance themes designed for all levels of fitness. Ditch the workout and join the party!
