POWER Program

Provider assists patient while doing physical therapy exercises

The Personal Optimism with Exercise Recovery (POWER) fitness program provides a personalized exercise plan for cancer patients based on diagnosis, treatment type and phase, and fitness goals. It includes the following:

  • Medical and physical assessment by a physician
  • Personalized exercise plan
  • Twice weekly exercise sessions with a certified cancer exercise specialist
  • Group circuit training classes
  • Weight management

All sessions are approximately 60 minutes in length. We also offer telemedicine appointments.

Program Cost

The POWER program’s initial medical and physical assessment by a doctor are billed to insurance. Following sessions with certified cancer exercise specialists and dietitians are paid by the patient. Cost is based on the program phase:

  • Phase 1 (0-3 months): $10 per session
  • Phase 2 (4-6 months): $15 per session
  • Phase 3 (7-9 months): $25 per session
  • Phase 4 (10-12 months): $40 per session

Patients may use tax-free medical spending accounts such as a health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA) to pay for exercise training sessions. Ask the Wellness Center about a pre-paid POWER pass to streamline the check-in process.

This class teaches awareness of body and mind, acknowledgement of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment, and allows you to see clearly into the experiences of your life.

HIGH Low Fitness

Reminiscent of the aerobics glory days, this format is based on traditional aerobics principles and HIIT to create a steady-state cardio workout without the impact of burpees or cardio push tracks. Offering the same choreographed fun of the original format, HIGH Low brings you energy galore with impact no more, for all levels.

Jin Shin Jyutsu® (JSJ)

JSJ is a Japanese healing practice that promotes relaxation and stress reduction through mindful body awareness and touch. It can help with stress, anxiety, pain, nausea, fatigue, mood, circulation, and energy levels. This class introduces the basics of JSJ for self-care, teaching participants how to use pressure points and gentle holds on their body to enhance well-being.

Pilates Mat

Similar to yoga, Pilates Mat focuses on a basic series of exercises designed to improve core stability, strength, balance, flexibility, and posture. Benefits may include increased breath awareness, improved spinal alignment, and strengthened core muscles.

Qigong coordinates slow, flowing movement and deep rhythmic breathing to create a calm state of mind and is often incorporated into the Tai Chi Classes.

Resistance Training

This class incorporates dumbbells, resistance bands, BOSU balance trainers, and resistance balls to work, strengthen, and build muscular endurance in every major muscle group.

Step into Life

Step into Life is a therapeutic movement experience for the body, mind, and spirit. The goal of the class is to build strength, flexibility, and endurance through movement and dance exploration. Classes are taught by Tanner Dance faculty with live piano accompaniment. Previous dance experience not required.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi focuses on slow, flowing energy movements that improve strength, mindfulness, relaxation, immune system, blood circulation, balance, and neuropathy while exploring mindful breathing.

Yoga is a non-aerobic exercise program of precise posture, breathing exercises, and meditation combined with slow, flowing energy movements that improve strength, mindfulness, and relaxation. Practice may reduce blood pressure, cholesterol, risk of falls, anxiety, stress, and pain.
