My name is Madison and I’m 20 years old. When I was eight, I was diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease called Kerataconus. Basically, my corneas were very thin and misshapen, therefore distorting my vision. By the time I reached high school, I was legally blind in both eyes.

Since then, I struggled with reading at school, playing sports, driving and other day-to-day tasks, but your family member has changed all of that! Since receiving my cornea transplant my life has changed immensely! It is absolutely remarkable how much my vision has changed in my left eye in such a short time! And it will only continue to improve. I am starting to be able to detail in things around me and it is so exciting! Since my transplant I have returned back to school where I am studying behavioral science with an emphasis on Family Studies. One day I hope to become a marriage or family therapist.

I often struggle with the words to describe how grateful I am for the gift of sight that I have been given, and I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to adequately thank you. But, I can tell you this, your loved one is remembered and loved. Not a day goes by where I don’t think about him/her. You and your family are in my prayers daily. If you are interested in writing me back, I would love to hear from you!

Thank you again and much love
Madison
