Bone Density Scan (DXA – Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry)
Bone density scan (DXA) is a simple imaging test to diagnose osteoporosis/osteopenia (weak and brittle bones). It is fast, easy, and painless. The process is similar to an X-ray.
What to Expect at Your Scan
- When you arrive, you will be asked a few questions about your health and medications. This will help us assess your bone health and bill your insurance appropriately.
- If you are wearing any zippers, buttons, or hooks in the areas we plan to scan, you will be requested to change into an exam gown.
- You will have to lie on your back upon a padded table for about five minutes for the scan. We do not give any sedative/dye for the scan.
You will be able to drive your vehicle home afterward.
Results
The results will be sent to your referring provider who will answer any questions concerning your results.
