Hand & Wrist Tumors

Many people will get tumors in their hands, but the majority of these tumors are benign, meaning they don’t cause cancer. When malignant, or cancerous, tumors do form, most of these tumors are types of skin cancer. Cancers within deeper tissues of the hands or bones are rare.

You should make an appointment with your doctor if you feel a mass (or bump) in your forearm or hand.

Ganglions Cysts

One type of common benign (non-cancerous) tumor is called a ganglion cyst (also known as a bible bump). Ganglions often form on the back of the wrist or on the thumb side of the palm part of your wrist where you can feel your pulse. They can also form on the backside of the end joint of a finger.

It’s less common for ganglions to form on the flexor tendon sheath, which is located on the palm side of the first bone in your finger.

What Causes Ganglion Cysts?

Ganglions usually form in joints when joint fluids escape from the joint. This causes a mass (or bump) to form underneath your skin.

Are Ganglion Cysts Hard?

Though ganglions are filled with fluids, some will feel fairly firm.
