Interviewer: You want to be healthier but where should you start, diet or exercise first? Certified exercise physiologist, Britta Trepp, what do you tell your clients?

Britta: Well, for weight loss, the combination of diet and moderate to vigorous physical activity, at least 150 minutes per week, will produce the largest weight loss compared with diet or physical activity alone.

Interviewer: So you're saying start with both?

Britta: Yes. That would be best.

Interviewer: That can be a little overwhelming, though, to some people.

Britta: Many people feel that the all or nothing approach is best, but making small tweaks in your daily routine may lead to big changes in body composition over time. For example, by simply minimizing added sugars and getting up to move one to five minutes each hour during the day, you may be making a big difference in your overall health. Don't overcomplicate things. Just eat better, move more.
