Mar 26, 2018 — Even if you already have diabetes, it's not too late to make positive lifestyle changes that can impact your quality of life. On today's Health Minute, Dr. Steven Lofgran shares some positive changes that can come from controlling your diabetes.

Interviewer: If you have diabetes, it's not too late to make changes in your life that will have really positive impacts down the road. Dr. Steven Lofgren, what are three changes that somebody with diabetes can make today that would really make a difference?

Dr. Lofgren: If you start controlling your diabetes today, you'll notice some energy improvement almost immediately. That can come only by controlling your blood sugar. You'll notice that you're making far fewer trips to the bathroom, particularly if your blood sugar has been poorly controlled. There's also going to be a sense of well-being that can come mentally only by controlling your diabetes. By controlling your diabetes today, you can avoid the fallout from uncontrolled blood sugars, which would include heart disease, kidney problems potentially leading to dialysis, visual changes, and numbness in your feet, which can be very bothersome and for which there is no really good treatment.
