Sonja Van Hala, MD, MPH, FAAFP is a board-certified family medicine physician who welcomes obstetric, pediatric, and family medicine patients to her practice. She received her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1998 and her family medicine residency training at the University of Utah in 2001. She completed a faculty development fellowship with a focus in teaching at the University of Utah in 2003 and earned a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Utah. Dr. Van Hala served as Program Director of the University of Utah Family Medicine Residency Program from 2005-2018. Her professional interests include full spectrum family care in patients of all ages, as well as maternity care, preventive medicine and pediatrics. Her research interests are provider wellness, leadership skills, and quality improvement education. In her leisure time, Dr. Van Hala enjoys live music, cooking, yoga, trail-running with her dog, skiing, watching independent films with her husband, and playing with her two children.
