Breaking Ground for Proton Therapy

When construction is complete in 2021, Huntsman Cancer Institute will implement the latest advance in proton therapy, called intensity-modulated proton therapy. Proton therapy is the favored approach for many tumors in and around vital structures such as the spinal cord and brain stem. It is also the preferred treatment for certain childhood cancers. We are committed to bringing cutting-edge care to our patients, and proton therapy will be the next step in that promise.

The Pancreatic Cancer Collective awards $7 million in first-round “New Therapies Challenge” Grants

The Pancreatic Cancer Collective, the strategic partnership of the Lustgarten Foundation and Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), has awarded a total of $7 million in first-round “New Therapies Challenge” grants to seven teams of top cancer researchers to explore new pancreatic cancer treatments, the American Association for Cancer Research, the Scientific Partner of SU2C, announced today. Each team will receive up to $1 million in initial funding, with $4 million per team for clinical studies awaiting the most successful projects in the second round.

Huntsman Cancer Institute Breaks Ground for Utah’s First Proton Therapy Center

Officials at Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah began construction on a project that will house the region’s first proton therapy center and announced the new center will be named in honor of United States Senator Orrin G. Hatch. Cancer patients and loved ones joined leaders from HCI, Huntsman Cancer Foundation, and the university to mark the occasion.

Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah has appointed Ignacio Garrido-Laguna, MD, PhD, as director of its Phase I Clinical Trials unit. In this position, Garrido-Laguna will oversee all aspects of HCI’s Phase I clinical trials.
