Honoring Craig H. Neilsen's Legacy
Craig H. Neilsen (1941-2006) sustained a severe spinal cord injury in 1985. He was a prominent real estate developer who founded the casino gaming company, Ameristar Casions, Inc. As a result of his life-altering injury, he created a private foundation in 2002 to support programs and scientific research dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living with spinal cord injuries.
In November 2017, the Foundation generously donated $47.5 million toward a new rehabilitation hospital at University of Utah Health. After decades of dreaming, U of U Health opened Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital in May 2020.
The legacy of Neilsen’s passion and dedication, together with U of U Health’s patient and family-centered focus, has resulted in a seamless and unique experience.
