Announcer: The Health Minute, produced by University of Utah Health.

Interviewer: Three ways to succeed with your healthy eating plan. Theresa Dvorak is a registered dietitian. Give us some tips.

Theresa: Sure. So first we've got to think about making it sustainable. So if my diet has a start date and an end date, probably not sustainable. I've got to be able to eat this way for a lifetime. It's also got to be satisfying, so it's got to be foods that you enjoy. If you don't love broccoli, don't eat broccoli. There's plenty of other ways to get those nutrients. So keep it enjoyable. And then it's got to maintain our health. So too much of any one thing, whether it's a healthy food or a less healthy food, is probably not a good idea. So keeping it balanced is really key. So maintaining a healthy eating plan comes down to three things. Keep it sustainable, have it be satisfying, and it should maintain health.
