Interviewer: Accidental drug overdose is one of the leading causes of death, and it's something that can be prevented. Dr. Joseph Watson, why don't people get the help that they need?

Dr. Watson: I think most people don't realize how common it is in our community. They think they're alone in what they're suffering with. They also think that it's due to some sort of weakness or moral failing, but they're wrong. This is a medical condition that is trying to take their life. They also don't know what options are available to help treat their disease. If you are someone who can relate to any of these issues, first just talk to a loved one. Then go see a healthcare provider. Then go to one of the many 12-step meetings, such as AA or NA, that are out in the community. The main thing is, don't be afraid to talk to somebody about what you're suffering with. It may save your life.
