Announcer: The Health Minute, produced by University of Utah Health.

Interviewer: Women struggling with postpartum depression often feel isolated and overwhelmed. Certified nurse midwife Marie Horne, what advice do you have?

Marie: My advice is to talk to someone about it. If you're feeling depressed, talk to a friend. The biggest thing that can help depression is the triple threat. And the triple threat is one, exercise. That really helps endorphins and helps treat depression and prevent it. Second is exercise with a friend because you have someone that you can talk to and you're not isolating yourself. And the third is outside. If you go outside and you're getting the sunshine and vitamin D levels, and that helps depression too. If a woman is still struggling after doing that and she's done everything that she can, I recommend she talks to her healthcare professional and get medical help.
