What We Offer in First Trimester & Early Pregnancy Care
Your First Trimester: Before 13 Weeks and Six Days
The first trimester can be an exciting, confusing, and overwhelming experience. We are here to support you if you are experiencing any common first trimester symptoms including, but not limited to, spotting, pelvic pain, nausea, and vomiting. Our specialists provide compassionate and expert care for you.
If you are a new or current patient at University of Utah Health, you can see a pregnancy specialist for symptoms that include pelvic pain and/or bleeding. If you are in need of emotional support, the providers in EPAC can help you connect with a social worker specializing in miscarriage and pregnancy complication support.
Our EPAC team providers offer comprehensive, non-judgmental early pregnancy care including the following:
- Pregnancy dating
- Options counseling
- Evaluation of vaginal bleeding and/or pelvic pain
- Management and follow up of early pregnancy loss (miscarriage or abortion)
Contact any women's health service support at 801-213-2995 to discuss your symptoms and arrange an appointment for private, accessible, specialist care that allows you to avoid the emergency room. This care is specifically available for patients in their first trimester, before reaching 13 weeks and six days of gestation.
Our team will make the most of our time with you. We will provide the treatments that will best help you as well as follow-up care. We will schedule you as quickly as possible including same day and next day appointments, depending on availability. We will provide a comprehensive evaluation of your symptoms and provide recommendations for care and follow up as needed.
We understand the emotional impact a pregnancy loss can have. Before, during and after a loss, our team will support you with compassionate care. This care includes all of the following:
- Expectant (waiting for your body to pass the pregnancy)
- Medications
- In-office aspiration (D&C). We offer a range of pain management options for in-office aspiration including oral pain medication and IV moderate sedation.
We believe that your mental health is just as important as your physical. Our team can connect you with the counseling and support services right for you after your pregnancy loss. Learn about our maternal mental health services or our Caring Connections program through the College of Nursing.
You may have concerns or questions after a miscarriage, abortion, or early pregnancy complication. You may be worried about planning a future pregnancy. We are here to guide you through your journey after any of these circumstances, whether that includes finding the right method of contraception or a future pregnancy.
