Treating GI Disorders & Gastrointestinal Disease
Our gastroenterology specialists treat patients with GI disorders ranging from stomach pain to blood in stool. We offer both colonoscopy (a type of lower endoscopy) and upper GI endoscopy (esphogealgastrodueodnoscopy or EGD) services in addition to GI consultations. We also offer screening colonoscopies which can be scheduled online.

Upper & Lower Endoscopy
Our gastroenterologists perform both upper endoscopies (which can detect signs of stomach cancer) and colonoscopies (which are used to detect colon cancer).
Getting a colonoscopy or EGD can be a stressful experience. We perform these procedures in our comfortable endoscopy suite rooms so you can relax. Our waiting area also has lots of natural light with large windows overlooking the Wasatch mountains.

Over 45? Get a Colonoscopy.
The gastroenterology clinic would like to remind you that regular screening is the best way to prevent colon cancer. Both men and women should get a colonoscopy to screen for colon cancer when they turn 45.
Patients with a family history of colon cancer or pre-cancerous polyps may have different screening guidelines and should ask their health care provider.
Colorectal Cancer Screening Guidelines
Huntsman Cancer Institute and University of Utah Health recommend you start screening for colorectal cancer at age 45.
Talk to your provider about what cancer screenings are right for you. Screening recommendations differ if you have higher-than-average risk and a family history of colorectal cancer. You may need additional screening exams.
Risk factors for colorectal cancer include:
- a personal or family history of colorectal cancer or colorectal polyps, including if it was found in a family member younger than age 45;
- personal history of inflammatory bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease; and
- a genetic syndrome such as familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) or hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (Lynch syndrome).

Our GI Clinic is located on the third floor on the northwest corner of the building. Our Endoscopy Suite is located on the fifth floor on the southeast corner of the building. When you arrive at our clinic, our staff will help guide you where to go.

To make an appointment with us, you do need a referral from your physician – unless you are scheduling a screening colonoscopy. If you are scheduling a GI Consultation, please check with your insurance to make sure this appointment will be covered.
